TUSUMUGI
Tsumugi originally is a name of a kind of fabric which is woven with spun yarn from floss silk. Tsumugi yarn is spun from floss silk of irregular-shaped cocoons or round cocoons, which is regarded as inferior to regular cocoon, and is usually thicker and uneven than row silk. In the dictionary, they call TSUMUGI fabric silk pongee, probably because of its natural rough and solid texture.
Tsumugi is casual and worn for daily use. The fabric is stronger than the formal silk kimonos. It is very popular among kimono-lovers in Japan, who often wear kimono. Some are made in very traditional ways and even more expensive than formal kimonos, however since it is made of uneven silk yarn, it can never be proper formal dress.
